Cape Beauty

I received a lovely commission from individuals residing in Katendrecht, Rotterdam. They requested a unique artwork depicting the surroundings that would complement the loft's interior.

Initially, I set out to capture images in Katendrecht and its surroundings, which proved to be a solid foundation for this piece.

The artwork effectively represents the current, dynamic Katendrecht, where much construction is currently taking place. Old and new coexist in a remarkable way, highlighting one of the charming aspects of this part of Rotterdam. The maritime and industrial character of the neighborhood is also prominently featured.

In the previous century, it was long known as Rotterdam's most famous red-light district with many entertainment venues for sailors. In other words: Chinatown, seamen's quarter, and red-light district.

Nowadays, it stands as one of the trendiest and most vibrant zones in the city, with numerous delightful restaurants, ice cream parlors, and bars, hopefully reopening soon.

The neighborhood's nickname is 'De Kaap.'

Hence, the artwork is named: Cape Beauty. This is how I experience Katendrecht, a beautiful district in my hometown!
