I had photographed a beautiful yellow rose when I lived in a house with a deep backyard by the water. I have fond memories of that place. Nowadays, we look down on our downstairs neighbor's beautiful backyard. We also enjoy that view, and it saves a lot on maintenance. Moreover, if you can travel a lot, essentially the whole world is your backyard. With that in mind, I combined the detail of a rose with the coastline of India, in the small Indian state of Goa. You can see people walking around in the setting sun and a peninsula with palm trees in the background. The atmosphere there was particularly pleasant.
In this artwork, the rose seems to revolve around the setting sun, connecting the foreground and background. I gave the overall composition subtle, natural tones, reminiscent of natural stone. I read somewhere that a yellow rose symbolizes intimate friendship and connectedness. That sounds beautiful; hence, this work is titledConnectedness.
