In the countryside, funerals swiftly followed death, and the grand farewell celebrations were later conducted under the guidance of Teshia Aguru. Families received ample notice so that no one could miss the event without a valid reason. Due to the high costs, they chose times after the harvest, when there was plenty of food for the guests and an abundance of well-fed sacrificial animals.
As fieldwork came to a halt post-harvest, the villagers also had sufficient free time to revel. With loud drums, rattles made from gourds, and raised spears, they bid a final farewell to the deceased under the leadership of Teshia Aguru, whose eyes resembled cowrie shells.
The ceremony was infused with sounds, colors, and rituals, serving as a powerful way to bid a definitive farewell.
