Watatam was a striking man with black stripes on his face and eyes that were also black stripes themselves. He was known as a wizard with many clients from the south. Fortune-telling was just a side job for him, but as a wizard, he had gained fame in the region.
He practiced both black and white magic and sold his magical remedies to anyone who asked for them, for the symbolic price of three coins and a bottle of gin. Those who gave more or less than the fixed price diminished the magical power of the remedies. It was an odd phenomenon, but his customers were willing to pay that exact amount, knowing that it maintained the strength of his magical arts. Whatatam's mysterious stripes and unique methods made him a legend in the south.
